Clinical Psychology

Psychologists are scientist-practitioners who are experts in the assessment, diagnosis, formulation, and psychological treatment of mental health, emotional and behaviour disorders that may exist across the lifespan. Psychologists work to understand and help people change ways of thinking, feeling, behaving and reacting that they themselves perceive as problematic, using evidence-based treatment approaches.

Clinical psychologists hold an area of practice endorsement. Additionally, they hold general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (AHPRA), have completed an approved postgraduate master’s qualification and supervised training in practice.

The psychologist may take a history from you and discuss your goals and best hopes for working together. The appointment is collaborative, and you are encouraged to ask questions along the way. By the end of the session, an agreement between you and the therapist will have been reached determining the recommended therapeutic approach, immediate strategies to implement, and the treatment schedule..
